We are faculty and librarians from across the University of Toronto’s three campuses. We come together from many fields of study and many walks of life because we want our pension plan to honour its commitments to responsible investing.

As members of the University of Toronto Faculty Association (UTFA), our pensions are held with the University Pension Plan (UPP). The UPP has articulated its “responsibility to promote the health of capital markets and the financial, social, and environmental systems on which capital markets rely” as a core investment belief. The UPP has operationalized that belief in part through its Responsible Investment and Investment Exclusion policies. However, the UPP’s current investment practices violate these commitments.

We believe that it is our responsibility to ensure our pensions – our deferred wages – are not profiting off of egregious violations of human rights.

Join your colleagues who have committed to vote ‘yes’ to a motion calling on the UPP to divest from the manufacture of weapons used to commit or facilitate war crimes, crimes against humanity, and other serious violations of international law in the Occupied Palestinian Territory and elsewhere. • Recent history at the University of Toronto and other universities has shown that there is sometimes a penalty for taking a public anti-war and anti-occupation position. Doxxing is also a risk. These penalties are unequally distributed, falling mostly on Indigenous colleagues, colleagues of colour, junior and precarious colleagues. Given the uneven risks to our community members, the UPP Divest campaign has decided that all people who pledge to support the UTFA motion will remain anonymous, in solidarity with our most vulnerable members. However, showing the titles and constituencies conveys the broad base of support we have across the university.

Data Care and Privacy Statement:

The website data are held on a webserver based in Canada, with the Canadian hosting company WHC.ca. The website utfadivestmyupp.ca has SiteSafe protection, which includes protection against DDoS attacks.
We are only collecting names and images for the purpose of this campaign, and will not use any list for any other purposes, now or in the future.
